Three Tips to Creating Your Seasonal Soiree

holiday party tips

Whether you want a change of scenery and a break from the office digs or prefer to stay closer to home, location doesn't matter as much as knowing how to pull off an event that make it the " talk of the town."

Any space can be transformed: a catering venue or your own corporate space. The possibilities are endless. Drapery, lighting, decorations, and even furniture are some examples of what can create the look of your holiday event. A variety of seasonal decorations can be bought at most local home improvement or party stores to help you create your event. You can also consider hiring a professional to take care of it for you.

" For one corporate party, we hung decorations from the ceiling of a client's showroom which gave a quirky twist on the traditional holiday decor," said Scott Weisberg of Everything Entertainment which provides event planning "know-how" and equipment to some of the largest companies in the New York Tristate area.

Wherever you host your event - office, warehouse space, showroom, or catering venue - consider the elements of the party such as who is invited? Some parties are just the employees, some with significant others, and some for the whole family. If employees' families are invited you may want to have a separate space for children's activities. Use accents such as seasonal lighting, decorations, and holiday scenery to define that main space as the highlight of the event. Having a catering establishment that works well with the creative side of your event planning team will help with the execution of the decor and entertainment.

Knowing who your audience is will help you choose a holiday theme that resonates with the guests.

Vignettes set up as window style displays and scenes typical of Normal Rockwell images are one way to create your holiday theme. Seasonal and festive theme decor, such as a winter lounge with white leather and acrylic furniture, and crystal curtains surrounding the lounge, is one way to go. Your guests can also have the opportunity to travel back in time by enjoying a Dickens' Victorian Village. This can be created with a giant backdrop, store front facades, and costumed entertainers shining shoes and making warm chestnuts. You can provide the perfect keepsake and make the event more interactive by offering guests sepia tone photos of themselves wearing slip on Victorian costumes over their own outfits without having to change their cloths. To create the perfect ambience for your guests to simply sit back, relax, and enjoy each other's company. Another great interactive and visual element is a bar carved from real ice with a vodka luge.

Entertainment, possibly the most important element, is what makes a party memorable and not just another holiday gathering. A casino, carnival, roaming magicians performing mini miracles right under your guests' noses, a photo booth to capture the memories, a circus performer, holiday theme craft projects for the children, and costumed characters are options suggested by Everything Entertainment when planning seasonal events. Children can engage in crafts that often represent the holiday, like decorating cookies with Mrs. Claus or photo snow globe ornaments with elves. The ambiance created for the children through crafts can be further enhanced by performers walking around in seasonal characters such as Stilt Walking Toy Soldiers, Real Bearded Santas, Brass Band Quartets, and Victorian Carolers.

Well-orchestrated holiday parties - location, theme, and entertainment that are well thought out- create the perfect atmosphere for your guests to socialize and enjoy the most out of the "most wonderful time of the year."

With a bottomless budget, most any vision or idea can be created. Bottomless budgets, however, are typically rare. With that in mind, consider the elements of the party that are most important to you. Is it the entertainment, the décor, the food, the party favors? Can you do some of it yourself to save some money and add in a few professional touches, or do you have a large enough budget to sit back while everything is handled for you?

You also need to determine how important the "wow" factor is for you. With some targeted, well thought out seasonal lighting, you can have that too. Your lighting doesn't necessarily have to be centered on the typical holiday colors – red and green. At one corporate party, Everything Entertainment created icy crystal walls by projecting cool blue and white lighting.

Giant snowflakes are another example of what can be projected onto walls and ceilings to create the WOW!
