Businessman is up to his old tricks

Great Kills resident Scott Weisberg is a magician at heart, but he knows first-hand there's nothing magical about building a successful business.

"It takes hard work. No matter what happens, I just keep forging ahead toward each of my goals," Weisberg said. One of the 38-year-old's ambitions was to guide the growth of Everything Entertainment, an undertaking that evolved from his once-fledgling magician's venture into a large-scale, special-events production company.

The firm supplies "everything," from tents, tables, chairs, heaters and stages to amusement rides, shows and carnival items. While building his business, Scott put his displays of magic on the back burner. "Now that we've expanded and I have all my people in place, I can get back to performing," he said.

So, Staten Islanders and others in the tri-state area are once again being entertained by Scott's lively performances at gatherings ranging from small family parties to the the Richmond County Fair, country clubs, trade shows and schools. The greatest enjoyment of being a magician is "watching other people being amazed and enter- tained," said Scott, who maintains a business office at 236 Arlington Ave., Mariners Harbor.

He was only 4 years old when he started thinking about making a career as a magician. "My father read me a book on [Harry] Houdini, and that's when I got hooked into magic," Scott said. He went on to perform his first magic show when he was 8. The Islander's foray into business began with Scott's Magic when he was a pre-teen. The venture later grew to become Scott's Magic & Entertainment Co., which in 2006 became Everything Entertainment.
